operating system Windows XP
My request related to the settings and changes in the last versions
2.1.0/2.1.1 to VLC Media Player 2.0.8.

I want to request why some settings have changed. The settings in VLC
Media Player version 2.0.8 are very good.
Especially the volume control is much more less in version 2.1.0/2.1.1
than in the versions before up to 2.0.8.
Another thing I could not test until now, because it is in dependency to
some files or not,
but when I started VLC Media Player with some files the quality seems to
be much more less than before.
At the moment I am using version 2.0.8 because I think this version is
better than versions 2.1.0/2.1.1.

Do you have a list of the changed settings in comparison to version
2.1.0/2.1.1 to version 2.0.8 ?
Do I have a chance to get back my lost settings of version 2.0.8 in the
next following version of VLC Media Player ?

Hello Jean-Baptiste Kempf,

I am sorry that I have described the missing settings in my own words.

Because of the volume control there is a lower level than before.
Before the volume control can be set up to 200 %, now there are only 125
% for it.

Because of the quality with starting VLC Media Player 2.1.0/2.1.1 I have
noticed,
that some of the files are interrupted at some points and the picture is
like "printed in negative way",
or some shadows, a shadowing of a silhouette or a similar way is to be seen.

Do you have any list of the changed settings ?

The new 125% correspond to the old 200% in terms of audio level.
Moreover, you can go higher.

Hello Jean-Baptiste Kempf,

related to the volume control of VLC MediaPlayer according to the
versions 2.0.8 and 2.1.0/2.1.1,
I have testes it again, but in my opinion the 125% new are not
corresponding to the 200% before.
The relationship between the different versions is not the same.
I think version 2.0.8 is more powerful and more advanced than the new
settings in versions 2.1.0/2.1.1.

I am musician and I have a real good hearing for different nuances in
music in general.
In School I have made a graduation in hearing chords and scales.
Sometimes when I am hearing some music through VLC Media Player
and related to the changed settings, I think before in version 2.0.8 and
earlier,
there is more "sound" and more "pressure" in the quality of the heard
music on VLC Media Player.

I hope this description is something that belongs to a well described
help for your support.
I cannot describe it more technical.

The problem of the shadowing of some files I think belongs to the
quality of the source from these files.
With some other files of a better source I have made good results.

For your suppoer many thanks.

Hello,

You can use the preferences to get the 200% in the new UI.

The new scale is cubic while the old one was linear.
If you are able to find the right volume is corresponding, please share
it.

Be careful that the downmixing formulas have changed too, so test with a
stereo song.

Best,
