I would like to try the Andoird VLC beta app, but I don't have access
to Google Play.

In the meantime, where could I get the latest beta copy of VLC from? I
should have thought SourceForge to be a good place.

Install Fdroid from here https://f-droid.org/FDroid.apk to install vlc
for android app in your device. You can also browse the
repo(https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/) with a web browser, and
directly download apps from there if you can't or don't want to run
F-droid client on your device.
Here's the apk link for vlc --

Quick note:

Git version 118 works well with CM10.2. (Plays all of my videos) :)

Version 113 and earlier did not, because it would display splashscreen for 0.5 seconds and then exit.
